Lots of us are NRA members. Guns and coins are a popular duo among collectors.
You have no doubt seen the "Buy Gold and/or Silver " advertisem*nts in the Magazines.
The ads always tell you to be sure and mention your "Vault Verification Code" when you call to place your order, and you will then receive special pricing.
The implication is that, as an NRA member, you will get a discount.
But the truth is, if you give them your "VVCode", you will be paying a jacked-up price (higher than normal) with a percentage of the sale going to the NRA.
I love the NRA, and donate to them. But I think it's a deceptive trick to engage in this practice.

The NRA members list will be the first target of any Democrat elected President. I'm not on the list for that very reason. I used to belong, but when all this hacking started I ended all my associations with every group, except you guys of course

It's simply a way for them to determine which advertising venue generated the business, to help guide their future ad spend one way or another. There may be a specific offer advertised in that venue, or there may not. Regardless that's all they're trying to do with this code.

wow!!!! just, wow!!!! you have eventually bought in to much of what the fear mongering demagogue has been saying on the stump, so just, wow!!!!!
most things are more simple than we make them out to be, the NRA is no different than many, many other organizations that take advantage of their members. as described by georgiacop, if you mention the "code" you do get special pricing, just not what you think. to that end the ad is truthful.
while I might disagree with AUandAG about his politics I agree 100% with his underlying point --- my thinking as of late is in how to disconnect myself from the grid. I can't protect what personal information is already out, but I can prevent anything else from being accessible

Agree with Keets. Please try to rise above the partisanship and divisiveness.
We have more in common with each other than we have differences. It's strange (and seemingly unpatriotic) that people do not want to think this way anymore.
Many professional organizations take advantage of their members through fear or simply because they can. The AARP immediately comes to mind but there are many others. In my professional field, the ABIM has, to use relevant terminology, been an opportunistic parasite.

I was once told if you don't have anything nice to say, then say nothing.
I'll follow that advice.

Don't people deserve to know when maybe something "isn't" nice?

The threat that gun owners seem to feel is long standing and has nothing to do with current politics.
I feel the same way about autonomous driving cars.

Did you actually make two calls to the same seller, one call with the NRA verification code and the other without the code to compare quotes? if so, what was the item and what was the price difference?
If in fact you did get a higher price quote using the verification code, you owe it to your organization to let them know how its members are being treated by the advertisers. . . unless of course the organization is the one actually pocketing the price difference in the form of a kickback by the advertiser.
Like the others have said, these "codes" are normally used to determine marketing effectiveness and may or may not include a kickback to the publication or broadcast channel displaying the advertisem*nt. I would be quite surprised at any proof that use of the code results in higher prices for NRA members. If so, I would like to know so that I can change my membership status ASAP.
Economic headlines the mainstream media are hiding from you.

This.
The lady on the phone TOLD ME that VVC prices were slightly higher than their "regular" prices because a cut would go to the NRA ( It surely works the same way for AARP and others as well).
